Hungarian Biokultura Federation has its background since 1983 as a Professional Forum for those smallholders who are interested in organic farming and gardening. In 1987  Biokultura Association was established and in 2005 it trasformed into the Hungarian Biokultura Federation. At present we have 12 member organisations. They cover the entire range of Hungarian organic sector from the farmers and processors through gardeners to consumers.

Main aims of the Federation:

  • Propagation of the idea and methods of organic farming in Hungary
  • Helping the cooperation of organic farmers and processors
  • Coordination of advisers on organic arming
  • Organising training courses and lectures on organic farming
  • Propagation of organic products on health programmes and exhibitions
  • Establishing connections with educational and research institutes
  • Maintaining connections with governmental organisations.

In 1996 Biokultura Association has founded the Hungarian certification body Biokontroll Hungaria Kht. It has an accreditation from the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and its Standard as well as the Hungarian Regulations for Organic Production are in compliance with the EU Regulations. Both the Hungarian Biokultura Association and Biokontroll Kht. are IFOAM members.
