Introduction
Hungarian Biokultura Federation has its background since 1983 as
a Professional Forum for those smallholders who are interested in
organic farming and gardening. In 1987 Biokultura Association
was established and in 2005 it trasformed into the Hungarian
Biokultura Federation. At present we have 12 member organisations.
They cover the entire range of Hungarian organic sector from the
farmers and processors through gardeners to consumers.
Main aims of the Federation:
- Propagation of the idea and methods of organic farming in Hungary
- Helping the cooperation of organic farmers and processors
- Coordination of advisers on organic arming
- Organising training courses and lectures on organic farming
- Propagation of organic products on health programmes and
exhibitions
- Establishing connections with educational and research institutes
- Maintaining connections with governmental organisations.
In 1996 Biokultura Association has founded the Hungarian
certification body Biokontroll Hungaria Kht. It has an accreditation
from the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and
its Standard as well as the Hungarian Regulations for Organic
Production are in compliance with the EU Regulations. Both the Hungarian Biokultura Association and Biokontroll Kht. are
IFOAM members.
